Exeter Personal Trainer David Elcoate Reveals Why Now is The Best Time To Start Getting In Shape And Not New Year,

Hey guys,

I was having a conversation with a client recently (thanks Lori for the inspiration) and it got me thinking about the best time for people in Exeter (or anywhere really) to get in shape, lose weight, tone up, get rid of pain, etc….

I am aware that right now the looming thought of Christmas is upon us, parties are in full swing adn the planning for all the presents, cooking and games are all underway, yet in the back of most peoples minds is always the “i’ll put on so much weight this year” or my back will really hurt after all the games at Christmas” or “as I am so busy I can’t find the time to exercise or do my rehab so i’ll start in the new year”….

Look I am saying as a simple answer “STOP THAT RIGHT NOW!!!!”

Don’t get me wrong, new year is a great time , we all start to wipe the slate clean and want to start again, decide this will be “our year”, well how many times has it been “that year” how often have you started with good intentions yet not finished. I only say this as statistically new year is when most resolutions are set yet also the stats show that by March the highest amounts of dropouts occur…

So instead of being that person that has a list and becomes a statistic, with a massive list by March of not done’s…

How NOT to look after setting your new years resolutions!

So instead, decide this year to commit and make a change before hand. Decide that even if it’s 5mins do something!!! Go into Christmas prepared (no army would go to battle without assessing the situation and taking preemptive strikes, so why do you)?

Hell even 5 mins a day of some squats and lunges would be better that just choosing oh i can’t do it so I may as well give up eat CRAP and not do a thing….

So included below is a short 4mins work out that involves nothing but your own body weight (descriptions and pictures are at the bottom of the post – please consult you own Dr before you start anything new and stop if something doesn’t feel right). I’ll be posting more up over the upcoming run up to Christmas but please feel free to use and abuse them to blat off body fat and to everyone in Exeter and the rest of the world have a great Christmas.

  1. 30secs push ups (as many as possible with good form).
  2. 20 secs Punisher Squats followed by 10 sec hold at the bottom of the squat
  3. 30 Sec Cross body Mountain Climbers
  4. 20 secs Punisher Squats followed by 10 sec hold at the bottom of the squat.

Voila 4mins of “fun”……..
